Booking and Bail in California

Whether a person has been arrested for domestic violence, DUI, DWI or any other offense the process is the same. Persons taken into custody by the Pomona Police or Sheriff's Department will be held at either the Pomona Police Station Jail, Sheriff's Station Jail or will be transfered to the Los Angeles County Jail (IRC) and will be kept there until their first court date called the "Arraignment." Bail is allowed to be posted in any facility 24hrs a day, 7 days a week.

Before a bail bond is turned in and accepted, the arrestee must pass a background check through "Live Scan", which is a machine that is linked to a county, state and national database. That database will notify the authorities of any possible holds, warrants, or aliases that might prevent release or increase the total bail amount of an arrestee. Once the results of the Live Scan come back from the various government agencies, that person is then "cleared" to bond out. At this time, a jailor will review and accept a Bail Bond for an arrestee and release them on the Bail Bond.

From the time a Bail Bond is turned in, it takes between 30 minutes and 3 hours for a release depending on the facility where the person is being held. Release times do vary based on the workload of the Pomona jail's staff as well as the type of facility. Once out, a person will need to complete his or her part of the paper work, take a picture, and make sure to show up to each and every court date thereafter.

Pomona is a city located in Los Angeles County and is the fifth largest city in the county only outnumbered by Los Angeles, Long Beach, Glendale and Santa Clarita. As of 2005, the city has an estimated population of 160,815 and is home to California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, and the Western University of Health Sciences. The city is home to the Fairplex, which hosts the annual L.A. County Fair, the Pomona Raceway Powerade Winternationals Drag Racing competition and the Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals. The city named after the Roman goddess of fruit, Pomona. The name was the winner of a contest to name the city, submitted by horticulturalist Solomon Gates. The city was officially incorporated in 1887 and since then, in 2005, the city elected Norma Torres, the first woman of Guatemalan heritage to be elected to mayoral office outside of Guatemala. The two universities in Pomona are both non-profit, Cal Poly Pomona was established on the site of W.K. Kellogg's ranch. The majority of the campus is not incorporated with the city, and has an estimated 21,000 students and covers over 1,437 acres. With this much area, it makes Cal Poly Pomona the second largest land holding university in the California State University system, and its programs such as engineering and architecture are very selective and nationally ranked. The other non-profit University located in the city is the Western University of Health Sciences which is one of the largest health sciences universities in the state of California. The University specializes in Osteopathic Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Pharmacy and other medical concentrations. The city also used to be home to Pomona College, founded in 1887, but was later moved to Claremont in 1889. The city does house one for-profit University, DeVry, which is a publicly held organization for higher education.
